There’s nothing funnier than getting dirty and playing in the mud!
This adorable elephant youngster was photographed playing in the mud while its herd was digging for water during a drought.
Maureen Gibson, a 73-year-old pensioner from Jeffreys Bay, Eastern Cape, South Africa, photographed the calf when she took a trip to Kruger National Park.
Maureen remarked that the herd of elephants went to the Park in search of water, and the baby did not miss out on the opportunity to swim in the muddy pool.
She said: “The herd of elephants came down the dry Mphongolo riverbed near Shingwedzi in the northern area of the Park, searching for sub-surface water at a time when the Park was going through a severe drought.
“To discover the water, the adult elephants had to dig in the sand until it was accessible.
“It was pretty evident that this elephant calf has never played in a muddy pool, and he couldn’t get enough of it – as his mother urged him out with her long trunk each time, he ran straight back into the muck to frolic and play.
“It’s a real pleasure to photograph elephant calves because they are so adorable and unpredictable; their antics may always bring a grin to my face.”
