After getting stuck in a puddle of mud, a clumsy baby elephant got a little help from her big sister and her trunk.
The calf struggles to get up on his front legs after soaking in the mud at a watering hole in Kruger National Park in South Africa.
He appeared to get help from an adult but fell in a deep puddle.
The calf sank, slipped and squirmed in the mud, seemingly trying to get attention from another elephant.
His sister spotted him trying to get up, and although she hesitated for a moment, she slowly stepped over to help him.
The elderly elephant used her trunk to give her brother something sturdy to lean on as he emerged from the slippery puddle.
He managed to step onto stable ground and quickly caught up with his mother, who was ahead of the herd.
Edrich Schafer, who captured the moment, said: “We found a herd of elephants next to a watering hole and decided to spend some time watching these amazing creatures go about their business.”
‘A special baby elephant stole the show. We noticed the male elephant lying in the mud, looking as if he wanted to get up from the mud.
“While feeling sorry for the little elephant, I couldn’t help but find it amusing at the same time.”
‘The female elephant was one of the many sisters of the calves in the breeding herd and began to move backwards until she was in position.
“Once the baby elephant came out of the wall, it was lovely to see him run straight towards his mother, looking so relieved,” he said.
