On Saturday, an elephant calf who fell into a 15-foot-deep well was saved using powerful machinery in Mayurbhanj, Odisha.
According to ANI, Rabi Narayan Mohanty, Range Officer in Deli Forest Range, the calf fell into the trench when it was out foraging later at night.
A video of the full rescue operation was posted online, featuring the young one emerging from the well amid the cheers of a crowd.
In the nearly two-minute-long video, a JCB machine may be seen digging soil aggressively to speed up removing the calf from the deep well.
A closer look at the video reveals that swarms of villagers have gathered around the accident site, each one wondering if the calf elephant could crawl out.
Meanwhile, the distressed animals’ loud cries might be heard. The clip then shows the tiny animal emerging from the well at last.
The video closes with the elephant calf making its way to the forest as the spectators applaud.
Those who witnessed the dramatic rescue were not amused, but internet users were delighted. Since it was posted on the internet, it has been seen by 27k times and generated a slew of comments. Many others inquired about the baby’s treatment following its rescue.
