It seems that boys will be boys regardless of species.
And certainly the case with these boisterous baby elephants struggling on the floor under the supervision of their parents.
Playful animals took turns biting each other at Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa.
Pete Leyland captured these adorable pictures as the baby elephants wrestled like babies.
The 36-year-old IT consultant and his family were driving in the afternoon at the park when they came across four baby elephants getting up at no good.
Mr. Leyland said: ‘There were all sorts of noises ‘get off me’ from a baby being squashed.
‘After jumping for a while on his friend, the one jumped down and lay down so that the other could have a turn to jump on him.
‘All four babies then rolled on top of each other under the supervision of several adults.”
Despite being a frequent visitor to the park, Mr. Leyland said he had never seen anything like it before.
Pete added: ‘Some youngsters were playing with each other on the long grass next to our car.
‘Two of them then lay down completely and appeared to be eating grass while lying on their side.
‘After a short while, two other youngsters came across, and one decided to lie on top of the other.
‘It looked like there was some screaming from the first youngster being squashed, which showed he had already got enough of being on the receiving end.
‘As far as we could tell, they were simply playing.’
In the end, the adult elephants came over to separate them after appearing tired of the wrestling.
Mr. Leyland said the elephants were not hurt during their game.
