Talk about watching the birdie…this unlucky photographer spent hours in concealment, trying to capture a diving kingfisher- only for the colorful bird to take up residence on his head.
Captured by wildlife photographer Nicolas Reusens were photos showing a kingfisher diving into a stream for fish.
But things didn’t work out exactly as planned, with the clever kingfisher catching Nicolas hiding in the bushes.
Nicolas, who took the pictures near Barcelona in Spain, said that he has been watching the pair of kingfishers for the past four months.
“I have captured a number of shots of kingfishers flying and snatching fish underwater.
“I felt a slight breeze on my head and thought a robin that frequented the nearby pond had landed on me.
“But, it was a blue kingfisher.”
I lay still with my eyes closed, not wanting to scare the bird away. For almost forty seconds, I lay motionless, waiting for the bird to make a move. Then, something that looked like a blue arrow zoomed away from my head and dived in front of me.
“It jumped into the water and accidentally got a fish right in front before running away.
Nicolas said: “The kingfisher was perfect, with a beautiful plume and no stains, but also had a gentle demeanor.
“For a moment, he seemed to see me looking at him, but when I made it clear that I wasn’t a threat, he knew the situation was desperate, so he was able to capture his target.”
“It was one of the most exhilarating experiences I’ve had with kingfishers in my life.”
