If Ola Jordan is keen to get back on Strictly Come Dancing after getting kicked off in week one, here’s her perfect partner – an antelope ready to dance the foxtrot.
Steve Catt was on safari in Kenya when he captured these stunning photographs of the antelope performing his dance moves.
When he saw that the usually reserved animal was up on its hind legs performing for the camera, he couldn’t believe his good fortune.
“He was staring right at me,” said Steve from Surrey. “I was more startled than anything since he appeared comical.”
The moment came while Steve was on a photography trip in Samburu-Buffalo Springs National Reserve in Northern Kenya.
Steve couldn’t believe it when he started showing off because this sort of antelope, the gerenuk, is known for being skittish.
“The antelope was simply browsing on a bush when it leaped up on its rear legs to browse higher up the plant,” photographer Steve explained.
“After about two minutes, the gerenuk remained in that position, and I was able to capture photos before it moved on.”
When Steve observed this antelope, it was standing upright in the bush. Standing on their rear legs while browsing the bushes is not unusual behavior for antelope, but he has never seen one do so.
Despite the incredible shot, perfectionist Steve was not completely satisfied.
“I liked the shot, except a few small branches in the way. But seldom is everything perfect when it comes to wildlife photography.”
