While hunting for supper, an unfortunate leopard was chased off by an elephant. The video was taken by Judy Lehmberg, who was on a tour at Kruger National Park, South Africa.
A lion is seen lurking in the grass as an antelope drinks at a watering hole in the video.
The elephant blows its trunk while the leopard is deep in concentration, but the leopard does not react at first.
The big cat retreats when the elephant unleashes a blast and charges towards it, knowing that its disguise has been exposed.
“I felt sorry for the leopard,” Ms. Lehmberg said. “It didn’t get to make a kill, but it did make me laugh because, as soon as I saw the elephant, I knew what would happen.”
Elephants are used to defending their territory against predators such as lions and leopards.
The leopard did not notice the elephant at first since it was preoccupied with the impala, but when it recognized it, everything was over.
‘To me, the moral of this story is always be prepared for whatever might, no matter how slim the chance seems, happen next.
‘In Kruger, you can go from bored out of your mind to “Oh my God, did you see that?” very quickly.’
