During breakfast, a group of tourists was interrupted when they saw a giant elephant drinking from their swimming pool.
The incident happened at the nThambo tree farm in South Africa and was captured on camera as the group sat down on the terrace to eat breakfast.
Male elephants are reported to be musth – when an elephant’s behavior changes as it’s producing 40 to 60 times more testosterone than normal.
It was first filmed picking fruit from a tree a few yards away from a tourist.
The large mammal was then recorded as it made its way to the lodge, where it dipped its trunk into the pool and began to suck.
Brett Thomson, chief executive officer of SunDestination, which runs the nThambo Tree Camp, said: ‘The elephant is in musth, which is a state of heightened aggressiveness and sexuality.
‘So he’s basically walking around, angry at the world, and anything moves.
‘Elephants visiting the camp and drinking in the pool at nThambo Tree Camp are a regular occurrence. And bull elephants come into musth seasonally. ”
He added: ‘Matt, one of the guides, was a bit nervous when it looked like he might push the boma (the fence) down,
“However, guests often prefer to see these animals in their natural environment and very close to the camp.”
