A tourist captured hilarious footage of an elephant using a concrete water pump cover to scratch an itch on its backside.
Anyone who’s ever had an itch that can’t be scratched will identify with the giant animal, which was stuck between a rock and a hard spot in Kruger National Park in South Africa.
The circular piece of concrete seemed to have done the trick for the elephant as it squatted on top and moved its lower body from side to side for almost half a minute.
He said: ‘I was actually photographing the antics of several baby elephants playing in the water, as one roamed.
“I didn’t notice it until it put a foot on what looked like a rock but was actually a concrete water pump cover.”
Hindry grabbed his camera, thinking the elephant was looking for water, and quickly realized it was testing the structure’s durability with its foot and trunk.
He said: ‘Then, to our surprise, he went back to sat it down and started scratching his backside. That’s perhaps something only video could bring to life – the expression, antics, and humor not always found in wildlife.
‘We really battled to contain our laughter, just because it was hard enough to keep the camera still. I think this is a one-off wildlife video, and it was a case of the right place at the right time.
‘No one else was there to witness this amazing sight, but the cars that followed soon must have wondered what we were laughing at.’
