There is no greater desire for those in love with the sea than to swim alongside its magnificent creatures. However, to fulfill that ambition, sometimes life isn’t enough, but as it turns out, some are luckier than others!
This group of sea-free divers has always wanted to get up close with a blue whale – the world’s largest giant! Their ambition has now been fulfilled, and they even managed to record the once-in-a-lifetime experience on video, and the results are incredible!
Marianne Aventurier, a psychomotor therapist, and Alex Voyer and Alex Roubaud, both amazing underwater photographers, have visited many locations worldwide to get close encounters with the elusive blue whales.
However, they have eventually come into contact with the enormous creatures that live off Sri Lanka’s coast.
“One of our wildest and most inaccessible aspirations was to swim alongside the blue whale,” Marianne added. “And here- in Sri Lanka, we were fortunate to discover a large congregation of sperm whales. They might be one to 15 individuals who have been divided into groups, but they are close together.”
Fortunately, it wasn’t a typical dive. The three divers didn’t just have one but two encounters with these spectacular creatures during their journey. For what they believe to be a lifetime experience, they spent nearly 40 hours in the water.
“Finally, among those 40 hours in the sea, we were able to meet the eyes of the blue whale twice. Forty hours for a few seconds of meeting, but it was worth it,” said Marriane.
When I was preparing to return to the boat, I found myself nose to nose with her[blue whale]! She approached me in a swimming motion. I moved, trying to find her eyes in such a vast assembly! She is covered with remora, and she is breathtaking.”
After the spectacular excursion, the travelers got a chance to swim with a group of sperm whales intrigued by the divers!
“We were fortunate to witness a large group of sperm whales,” the woman added. “Some slept, but the majority went a little deeper, and one of them stopped to watch us for a few minutes.”
