A traveler captured hilarious footage of an elephant using a concrete water pump cover to scratch an itch on its back.
Anyone who’s ever had an itch they can’t scratch will identify with the giant animal caught between a rock and a hard spot in Kruger National Park in South Africa.
The circular concrete block seemed to fool the elephant as it squatted upwards and moved its lower body from side to side for almost half a minute.
The interesting video was shot by Dereck Hindry, 63, while traveling to Kruger with his wife, Jennifer.
Hindry said they were driving through the park when they stopped to take some pictures of a herd of elephants at a watering hole.
He said: “I was actually photographing the antics of several baby elephants playing in the water as one roamed around.
“I didn’t notice it until it landed on what looked like a rock but was a concrete water pump cover.”
Hindry grabbed his camera, thinking the elephant was looking for water, and quickly realized it was testing the structure’s durability with its foot and trunk.
He said: “Then, to our surprise, he went back to sit down on it and started scratching his back. That was probably something only video can bring to life – expressive and Antics, and humor is not always found in wildlife.
‘We really battled to contain our laughter, just because it was hard enough to keep the camera still. I think this is a one-off wildlife video, it was a case of the right place at the right time.
“No one else was there to witness this amazing sight, yet vehicles pulling up just after must have wondered what we were laughing at.’
