This is the incredible moment when a giraffe went on a bike ride and chased after a group of cyclists.
The cyclists were cycling on the Cape Pioneer Trek, a mountain bike race in South Africa, when an ecstatic giraffe emerged from the brush and started chasing after them.
The competitive giraffe began chasing after and running beside the cyclists during the race, clearly unwilling to come in last.
The cyclists may be seen looking over their shoulders, shocked by the unexpected participant who had joined them in the race.
Zoon Cronje, 35, was shooting aerial footage of the race from a helicopter when he filmed the amusing incident.
Zoon, a photographer from Pretoria, South Africa, said he regularly photographs extreme sports events, but nothing like this has ever happened to him.
The guide remarked, “I was about 200 meters away when the giraffe became startled and began to run toward us and the riders; it was a total surprise.
“It could have been really hazardous since giraffes are big animals, and the riders didn’t have the vantage point we had to anticipate it.
I had a front-row seat to the action holding my breath, and luckily instinct kicked in, and I kept shooting rather than staring
“I’ve captured quite a few close encounters in my line of work; this was by far the most dangerous because of the speed of the riders going downhill unable to see the rapidly approaching giraffe.”
“I seldom shoot sequences, but I am glad I did.”
