The touching story of an orphaned elephant who played brother to a calf saved by rescuers is going viral after Sheldrick Wildlife Trust shared it.
A pair of adorable elephants is going viral on the internet after Bob-Cut Sengamalam. Through their social media, Sheldrick Wildlife Trust shared a moving story of an orphaned elephant named Zurura caring for a rescued baby elephant named Pare.
The post has over a thousand shares, and the story is being widely praised.
Back in 2016, baby Pare was placed under the care of the South African Endangered Species Conservation Trust. He arrived diseased with parasites and suspicious of poach- ing. With constant attention and a strong desire to live, his condition improved little by little.
In December 2018, Pare was transferred to Sheldrick’s Ithumba Reintegration Unit. Zurura was one of many elephants who followed in his footsteps before him.
According to the trust, Zurura is ten years older than Pare and has already returned to the wild. The wildlife organization said that he had previously crossed paths with Zurura and Pare would return one day.
They said that Zurura visits her human family frequently and likes to be with other rescued and dependent elephants.
Zurura loves playing big brother to little elephants like Pare. The trust wrote, “For a young bull like Pare, these visits are such a thrill, providing an opportunity to spend time with ‘a big bull’.”
They further added, “Zurura clearly loves the chance to play a ‘big brother’ role to Pare and all of the Ithumba herd too”. [sic]
Netizens were also quick to react, immediately jumping the comments section to drop down adorable comments.
