He performs a forward roll before slipping into a puddle of mud, leaving his mane and tail dripping.
The embarrassing sequence was captured by French photographers Lauren Renaud and Dominique Hutton while on safari in the Masai Mara, Kenya.
After the hilarious blunder, the lion missed its dinner.
“I’ve never seen anything like it before, this was a complete scoop!” said Laurent.
“It all happened very quickly, and when we reviewed our photographs, we were astonished to see how hilarious it looked.
“He appeared angry after that!”
He was left looking like a fool after missing a lunch.
“He appeared to be screaming at me in a photo on my camera.”
