This is one of the rarest moments where a trail camera has captured the cry of a snow leopard. The striking video was shot in a remote mountainous area in northern Pakistan.
The UK’s wildlife charity – the White Lion Foundation – is observing the clouded leopard population in these mountains and recently, one of their trail cameras captured the rare sight.
Snow leopards are very elusive creatures. Due to their shy nature, there are only a few footages of these majestic creatures in the wild. So when a snow leopard’s call is captured on camera, it’s a blessing for every wildlife enthusiast.
They may look cute and shiny, but their roar is just as aggressive as any other wild feline. In this rare scene, a young man shows off his special skills.
“The adult male is making vocal calls to establish territory and let the females know he is in the area,” said John Knight. “Recording on camera his call is extremely unusual and special!”
Native to the mountainous regions of Central and South Asia, the lovely snow leopard is listed as vulnerable, according to the IUCN Red List. There are between 4,000 and 7,500 individuals left in the wild. With the help of the Baltistan Wildlife Development and Conservation Foundation in Pakistan, the White Lion Foundation is working hard to save these elusive cats.
