Meet Jonathan, a 189-year-old giant tortoise that is currently the oldest known land animal worldwide.

Jonathan lives on Saint Helena Island, Seychelles, and resides with the governor at Plantation House, which is believed to be hatched back in 1832. This truly remarkable age has earned him a Guinness World Record as the oldest-known land animal alive.

While it’s pretty assumed his age, what is very interesting about this giant Seychelles tortoise is that it was even caught in the camera over a century ago.

The first picture of Jonathan was taken in 1886. So it’s fascinating to see how his age has passed without affecting his appearance.

It goes without saying that the turtle was about 54 years old when that photo was taken.

Despite his old age, the famous Jonathan is still full of energy and acts like a young man. However, doctors have noticed signs of aging.

According to them, his sight and smell were getting weaker and weaker. So, to stay in shape, Jonathan has to follow a stringent diet. Dr. Hollins feeds him exceptional food with higher calories every week. He doesn’t eat enough vegetables anymore.

Here’s a picture of Jonathan taken in 1902, and it’s great to compare it to the one taken today!
