This elephant proved it wasn’t a litterbug after incredible footage showed it shoveling trash and putting it in a bin.
It shows that flies are not the only nuisance to the giant mammal, which has decided to act for the environment.
CCTV showed the elephant wandering through the back garden of a house in Greater Kruger National Park, South Africa before it spotted several empty cans left on the lawn.
After signaling the litter, the elephant used its trunk to suck up the cans one by one before using one foot to drop them into a nearby bin.
It also seems to have processed some of the trash it had previously found in the bush before picking up the cans.
The first drop is pretty easy, but the second may prove more problematic.
After using its feet to help the grip more secure, it dropped the can to the ground.
But nothing can stop the task of keeping the grass free of litter, and this is the lucky second time that the can has been successfully put in the bin.
Russell Owen MacLaughlin, a photographer based in Hoedspruit, South Africa, captured the astonishing moment after setting up CCTV cameras to see which wildlife had visited the area.
Russell said: ‘The elephant just walked and picked up the cans to throw in the bin.
‘It was absolutely an incredible mind. I can’t explain why or how it happened; it just did. I guess it must be another case of animals doing amazing things. ‘
