Now that’s a well-timed photograph!
This hungry dolphin was photographed at the precise second he caught a leaping salmon in his teeth while playing in the Moray Firth, Scotland.
Lorraine Culloch, an amateur photographer from Arbroath, captured the animals appearing to play with their food before she photographed one particularly hungry dolphin holding a large fish between his teeth.
Lorraine said: “The dolphins congregate at this location an hour after low tide to consume Scottish Salmon.
“Dolphins sometimes toss salmon about and people believe they’re “playing” with the fish.
“But actually, dolphins need to feel that the fish that they are trying to swallow fit properly and comfortably down the throat without hindrance or obstacles otherwise the fish could become jammed or lodged there – which is why they appear to toss them about with their noses.
“I just enjoy watching the dolphins — they’re really amazing and well-fed, with maybe some of the biggest and best salmon in the world.”
