Netizens praised the elephant for being smart enough to know how much water to draw, and many called him a ‘genius’ and even criticized humans for wasting water.
In the spirit of spreading awareness about water conservation, the Ministry of Jal Shakti took to Twitter to share a video of an elephant sucking water from a tubewell.
The video, which is going viral on the internet, shows an elephant pumping water from a tubewell apparently intended for humans. Although photos and videos of people wasting natural resources go viral, the footage showed the elephant stopping as soon as it has absorbed enough water.
Sharing the video, the series writes that even an elephant understands the importance of every drop of water, “So why would we humans waste this precious gem?” The ministry also encourages people to learn from the elephant and start conserving water.
Merging the Ministries of Water Resources and Drinking water, the government got the former Minister Jal Shakti in 2019. Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat also launched the “Sanchay Jal, Behtar Kal” campaign to conserve water.
Indian Forest Service officer Ramesh Pandey also tweeted the video saying, “Water and animals are both precious and must be preserved to survive.”
