These incredible shots capture safari animals all around the world as you’ve never seen them before – reflected in the water under a starry sky and thousands of tranquil, sparkling water droplets in the foreground.
In Andreas Hemb’s dramatic images, you can see a cute elephant standing on the water’s edge, a thirsting leopard stopping to drink, and two water buffalo gazing upon their reflections.
The 43-year-old Swedish man snapped the photos during several trips to the Zimanga Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
He entered the hide in the afternoon and spent most of the night waiting for the creatures to come to drink at the watering hole, so he could capture photographs of them. He said: “To meet and photograph African animals during the night is a magical experience.
“All other senses get heightened, and you feel the magic of the African night.”
“The hide is in front of a small water hole which the animals know always contain water.”
Andreas said he used a fixed light from the side of the hide to ensure the water’s edge was lit up for his shots.
And a multiple exposure technique helped him capture both the animals and the starry sky in the same photo.
He said: “The nightly encounters under the nocturnal African sky are really something that has to be experienced to understand.”
