While it is quite rare to spot a polar bear outside of a snowy landscape, it seems that these majestic creatures are not returning from revel in the flower fields. And this polar bear-loving photographer managed to capture some incredible photos of these gentle giants having the time of their lives frolicking in the grasslands of fireweed.
The rare set of photos was taken in Manitoba, Canada, where it becomes a vast ocean of flowers in summer. Here, nature and wildlife photographer Dennis Fast captures polar bears on camera in the funniest ways you’ll ever see.
“It’s not just their color making them a favorite target of my camera,” Fast said. “They have a slow, happy gait as they scan for anything that moves. It seems that they are not cared for in the world, and there is nothing for them to fear. It’s not arrogance, exactly, but the quiet confidence we normally respect in humans, and that’s what polar bears mean.”
“Most people are familiar with photographs of polar bears in the ice and snow in Hudson Bay in Northern Canada and other polar regions. They are so ingrained in people’s minds that you might think that the North only experiences winter,” said the photographer.
While loving all wildlife, Dennis claims to be drawn to “the most iconic animals of the North.”
“I have to say it was a real pleasure to see a polar bear in my viewfinder. It’s great to spend quality time with my favorite animal. And quality time means spending time with the bears,” Dennis Fast shared.
“On another occasion, I laughed out loud as I watched a polar bear comfortably bare its teeth to pluck a flower from a fireweed blossom and roll it between his lips!” Dennis said.
Despite being one of the deadliest predators on Earth, polar bears are proving that they are fearsome creatures too!
