After a life in a cage, an old rescue lion still has the strength to be cuddled. The affection he shows for the little squirrels is so surprising even to his caretakers. But after all, the animal kingdom never ceases to amaze, when it comes to unlikely friendships.
Unfortunately, Guero the lion has a very beautiful past. The giant feral cat has spent his life in a private zoo in Mexico. He was forced to live his days in small cages alone. An extremely difficult life has affected him both mentally and physically.

Thankfully, a local animal welfare organization found him just in time. Immediately after rescuing him, these volunteers asked for help at the Colorado Wildlife Sanctuary.
The benefactors there were more than willing to help, so Guero was brought to the United States to receive the necessary medical care.
The rescued lion is then moved to a sanctuary, where it finally has a chance to live in peace. He adapted very quickly to his new home and he seemed to have made new friends here.
Even though the painful past left a deep wound in his soul, the gentle giant was still able to water the love around him. Recently, Guero surprised his caretakers with the kindness he showed to a tiny creature that visited his enclosure.
The huge lion was captured on camera sharing a warm moment with a squirrel. Besides, Guero is also happy to share his food with tiny guests. A lovely friendship is about to be born!
“Turns out Güero and the 13-Striped Ground Squirrel are friends and Güero is perfectly fine with the little guy sharing his food,” the sanctuary wrote on Facebook.“Every day, Güero loves to grab some whipping cream after eating meat, and the squirrel has decided that he loves whipping cream just as much! It’s a scene we see over and over again. They share such a ‘sweet’ bond.”
