A crowd of tourists was chased by a massive hippo in a frightening video that has recently gone viral. Dicken Muchena and his three friends were out on Victoria Lake in Kenya sightseeing in a speedboat.
They were soon terrified when a hippo began pursuing them in the lake. On Twitter, Lembani Traveler posted a video of the encounter, which has gained widespread attention.
One of the persons on the speedboat has recorded the footage. The hippo is seen pursuing a speeding speedboat with four people aboard.
The video shows the huge beast gliding through the water in the wake of the speedboat. The animal is seen mostly underwater, but it occasionally rears its head to breathe as it continues to follow the boat.
Dicken Muchena stated, “The team was aware that the area was a habitat for hippos.” They wanted to catch hippos on film but avoided approaching too near. He said there were at least six hippos in that region and many others around the lake.
A giant furious hippo emerged in the water and began pursuing them once they were aboard. The hippo chased them for four minutes, but they made it to safety on land because of the speedboat. He stated that “it was a close call” when the tourists had been able to board their boat.
The video has been viewed over one million times since it was posted on Twitter, and numerous responses have been recorded. People terrified to see the footage took to the comments section to share their views. One user commented, “Crazy. I thought these things are humble.”
Another user commented, “I had NO idea that hippo’s could swim like that! They never showed this on animal planet.” Third user wrote, “I thought they were friendly animals. Glad you survived to post this. Hippos kill more people than any animal in the entire universe. What I’ve never seen before is that menacing butterfly stroke.”
