Meet the Virgin MOO-ry, a cow who became pregnant with a calf without the presence of a bull.
Harriet, the Dexter cow, startled staff at Pinewood Nurseries in Stoke Poges, Bucks, with her own immaculate COW-nception.
Harriet, the Dexter cow, fell pregnant with a calf without a bull being present
Petal’s birth left Liz Robinson, owner of Pinewood Nurseries, perplexed since her nursery did not have any bulls.
This begs the question – MOO’s the daddy?
On December 8, eight months after Harriet had come to Pinewood with six other cows, Petal made her unanticipated debut.
Liz Robinson was left baffled by the arrival of baby Petal as the nursery doesn’t own any bulls
Liz, 30, said: “Petal is our very own moo-siah.
“We had no idea Harriet was pregnant until she woke us up in labor,” says one author.
She didn’t appear any different from the others, just another fat cow.
We’ve never bred cattle at the nursery, so we don’t have any bulls.
“We were unaware of Harriet’s pregnancy when we bought her, so when Petal showed up, we were all confused.”
For just over ten years, Elizabeth has run Pinewood with her husband, Tom, and her sister Maria Jackson, both 33.
Because they had never needed a stud on the farm, they were startled when Harriet started groaning in labor during the night.
Liz said: “One of the cows woke Tom up with their loud lowing.
“He rushed down to see what was going on.
“When he arrived, Harriet was in the middle of childbirth, and we discovered it for the first time.
“We assumed some of the females may have been pregnant, but we’ve had no calves since.”
Fortunately, Petal – named after the nursery’s flowers – will not be sold in the farm shop.
The nursery also welcomed a new bundle of joy in the form of an adorable orange baby girl.
Only a week before, piglets had been born, but this time there was a straightforward answer – they had a sow on the 15-acre property.
